A foot is being trimmed on this Moon jar. The jar is leather hard clay and placed upside down in a chuck, which is a bisqued piece of clay that holds pieces of clay to support it while being trimmed.
Excess clay is trimmed off with sharp tools and then the final surface is smoothed to a fine finish.
